What narrows it is the situation: how long you have known each other, whether anything is currently wrong, and whether you are marking something or asking for something.
The other variable people ignore is how much a song commits them to. Sending somebody a record is a message, and a big song sent early says more than most people intend. Each of the pages below sorts on that axis rather than on mood, which is the useful cut.
